Acupuncture & Acupressure

My Techinques.  (  About Zak Acupuncture, please click here )

The techniques (methods) I am using are Acupressure, Chinese manipulation technique and Acupuncture, which originate from Chinese medicine and require special training and experience. They are also very safe and most of the back problems will respond to them.

Acupressure , Chinese manipulation technique and Acupuncture techniques are commonly used .To produce positive response, chronic conditions will require on the average six or more treatments. More complicated cases (e.g.; disc conditions) will require twelve or more sessions.

Please Noted:We are not a chiropractic or osteopathic practice, but an our clinic specialising in serious back problem.

It estimate that up to 80% of adults will eventually suffer from back pain condition.Traditionally, conventional medical doctors attribute back pain to specific anatomical problems in the spine, but spinal X rays or MRI scans of many people with disabling back pain appear perfectly normal,Formal Chinese back specialist, acupuncture practitioner, Zak believes that most cases of chronic back pain are caused by a inflamed soft tissue (tendon and ligment) which due to chronic injuries and could be treated by deep and intensive acupuncture. While working at the Chinese army hospital, Dr. Zak saw numerous patients with debilitating back pain for whom he prescribed conventional treatments, with inconsistent and typically disappointing results. Dr Zak began to question traditional medicine to diagnosing and treating back pain. With 20 years clinical experience, he became convinced that most back pain and neck pain originated in the soft tissue injury rather than in a structural abnormality of the spine. Dr.Zak notes that deep and intensive acupuncture that enhance the flow of blood and relive inflammation to the affected area. The most convincing support for this theory comes from the tremendous success both China and UK.

Chinese massage(Acupressure) is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture, and involves in the use of finger pressure (without  needles) on specific points along the body. It is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centres in the body. Chinese cultures believe the points to be junctures of meridian pathways that carry energy called chi. Western scientists have also mapped out and proven the existence of these points using electrical devices.Chinese Pull-Push Acupressure Massage. This oriental form of massage uses the principles of meridians and the five element theory. Massage combines relaxation, tonification, pain relieving processes and other effects of treating acupoints.

Acupressure (applying pressure with the thumbs or fingertips to the same points on the body stimulated in acupuncture) seems to be more effective in reducing low back pain than physical therapy, finds a study published online by the BMJ 16/02/06

Low back pain is a common health problem worldwide. In previous studies, acupressure has been shown to be effective in alleviating various types of pain, but little is known about its effect on low back pain.

Researchers in Taiwan recruited 129 patients with chronic low back pain from a specialist orthopaedic clinic. All patients completed a standard disability questionnaire before being randomly allocated to two treatment groups: 64 patients received six sessions of acupressure and 65 patients received physical therapy. Results were analysed immediately after treatment and again after six months.

The mean disability score after treatment was significantly lower in the acupressure group than in the physical therapy group.

In fact acupressure conferred an 89% reduction in disability compared with physical therapy, after adjusting for pre-treatment disability. This improvement lasted for six months.

Benefit was also greater in the acupressure group for variables such as "leg pain," "pain interferes with normal work," and "days off from work/school."

This study shows that acupressure is more effective in alleviating low back pain than physical therapy in terms of pain scores, functional status, and disability, say the authors. The effect was not only seen in the short term, but lasted for six months.

These results support the conclusion of previous studies. Acupressure may thus be useful for reducing pain and improving body function and level of disability in low back pain, they conclude.

Acupuncture --------------------------Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical therapy.

Acupoint are the specific sites through which the Qi and blood od the Zang -Fu prgans and meridians is transported to the body surface and through which acupuncture and moxibustion and other applied by external stimulation.

Acupoints Distributed on their related maridians pathways are closely linked with the meridians and collaterals. So the acupoints should not be regarded as superficial point alone, but as special sites which connect each other, and though which the internal tissues and organs are related. The maridian-collaterals connect the whole body, both interiorly and exteriorly and deseasa of the body can be treated by punctureing the poingts on the body surface to regulate the related meridians,Zang Fu organs and circulation of Qi and blood.

Mayo Clinic doctor talking about acupuncture.....

Ronald Reimer, M.D.,Neurosurgery, Mayo Clinic. I can cite several examples of acupuncture's beneficial effects. These stories from our patients illustrate the scope of acupuncture's benefits:

Post-surgery nausea: Nausea and vomiting after surgery can be a serious side effect of anesthesia for some patients. ..... Tennis and golf elbow (epicondylitis): Another patient, who is an avid tennis player, believed he was permanently sidelined because of elbow pain. Aggressive physical therapy and steroid injections hadn't helped. With one acupuncture session, his pain was eliminated, ..... Cancer recovery: Another patient had difficulty bouncing back after surgery -- an esophagus resection to treat cancer. Like many patients who undergo this procedure, he had problems with eating, lost weight and wasn't able to work or exercise. After he'd lost almost 50 pounds and nothing else helped, he tried a series of acupuncture treatments. He says the acupuncture gave him his life back. ...... Granted, these are anecdotes. Not everyone will experience similar results, nor might everyone even be a candidate for acupuncture. Acupuncture has an excellent safety profile, with negligible risk of infection or bleeding. It can safely be performed on patients who are on blood thinners, unlike many other pain management modalities. Patients should seek treatment by physicians who've received extensive training in the art and science of acupuncture.

Very professional ,Thank you, doctor! ____________________________________________________________________________________ Source:http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/health/400044_mayo16.html?source=rss

Why does Zak acupuncture technique work? New Chinese research may tell you.

Many patient wouder that why Zak acupuncture work?if you read my website carefully, you can find what's my techniques....

New Chinese research about "acupuncture for nerve root local inflammatory factors in the lumbar nerve root compress" may tell you something about this techniques. The 6th Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University did this research, thanks to them.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of acupuncture for treatment of lumbar nerve root compression injury. METHODS: Fifty healthy SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, a normal group, a model group treated by saline, a medication group treated with Caerulein, an acupuncture group treated with acupuncture at L5, L6 Jiaji (EX-B 2) and a warm needle group treated with acupuncture and moxibustion at L5, L6 Jiaji (EX-B 2). The lumbar nerve root compress injury model was made by placing microsilica gel tablet. After they were treated for 14 days, the compressed nerve root was taken and the ultra-microstructure changes of the injured nerve root were observed by electron microscope and changes of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) expressions were investigated by ELISA assay. RESULTS: The changes of ultra-microstructure of the nerve root were the most obvious in the model group and the changes in the medication group, the acupuncture group and the warming needle group reduced in order; the NOS activity and CGRP content in the nerve root tissue of the compressed area in the warm needle group were significantly reduced as compared with the model group (P <0.05), but with no significant difference as compared with those in the normal group (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Warm needle treatment can effectively maintain cellular form, and ultra-microstructures of nerve root dorsal root ganglia, and effectively inhibit the release of inflammatory factors NOS and CGRP

so,what's your opinion?

New research maybe tell us why acupuncture work?

Inflammation may play a role in the health of people who sleep too little or too much, according to a U.S. study that included 614 people.

Previous studies have linked both short and long sleep duration with an increased risk for coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and death. Chronic elevations in inflammation-regulating cytokines are also associated with an increased risk of health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

Researchers also have shown that the protein COX2 in mouse nerve cells in the central nervous system (CNS) is crucial for hypersensitivity to pain caused by the physical insult associated with inflammation, but not pain caused by the heat associated with inflammation

Another research: A new study in the journal Sleep shows that sleep duration is associated with changes in the levels of specific cytokines that are important in regulating inflammation. The results suggest that inflammation may be the pathway linking extreme sleep durations to an increased risk for disease.

Acupuncture can help inflammation relief very well.so this research possibly show that why acupuncture help ....

So what's your opinion.

The modern studies indicate that there is a close relationship between mast cells and the acupuncture effect, and acupuncture can activate mast cells to induce a series of vascular reaction and immunological effect. The authors hold that acupuncture is a kind of nociceptive stimulus, which can cause inflammatory reaction in the sites of acupuncture, and then further activate the nerve-endocrine-immune network to cause the cascade amplification of the acupuncture effect. The inflammatory reaction induced by acupuncture is one of the initial factors of acupuncture effect.( source:Zhongguo Zhen Jiu. 2009 Jan;29(1):32-4)
